This drawing is a study for the oil painting, "The Adventure Begins" depicting the first glimpse of Toronto in the distance as you ride the train into the city. I imagine this was the first glimpse of a big city (they aren't that common in Canada) many people had coming in from rural communities to see if they could make it in the "big city."
